Risk Management Reference Card

The SPMN was established in 1992 by the Assistant Secretary of the Navy to identify proven industry and government software best practices and convey these practices to managers of large-scale DoD system acquisition programs. These 16 Critical Software PracticesTM specifically address underlying cost and schedule drivers that have caused many software intensive systems to be delivered over budget, behind schedule and with significant performance shortfalls.

Mission: To identify proven industry and government software best practices and convey them to managers of large-scale software-intensive acquisition programs. Applying extensive "in the trenches" experience, the SPMN enabled Department of Defense program managers to achieve program success and deliver quality systems on schedule and on budget.

Hundreds of government and commercial technology acquisition programs benefited directly from our "in the trenches" program management, risk management and system engineering expertise, including independent risk assessments, risk management software, best practices guidebooks, and specialized training.

Although the SPMN funding was cancelled in 2001, AMERICAN SYSTEMS continues to offer an impressive range of SPMN expertise and services.
